Do Herbamare salts contain microplastics?

Microplastic particles are now present in many areas of our environment, including the air, making them difficult to completely avoid.

Herbamare® Herbed Sea Salts were tested in May 2019 by the Environmental, GMO & Propellant Analysis facility of the Austrian Environment Agency for all relevant groups of plastics.

Using the latest testing methods, no traces of PVC, PS, PET, PA, PC, PMMA or POM plastics—and no detectable microplastic particles—were found in the Herbamare® samples (detection limit: 84 parts/kg of product; minimum particle size: 0.005 mm).

Considering the recommended daily intake of salt (5 g), Herbamare® Herbed Sea Salts are not considered a relevant source of microplastics.
