I would like to take Milk Thistle, but I’m being treated for mild high blood pressure. Can I take it?

Milk thistle is generally considered safe and is not known to raise blood pressure, so it is often suitable for individuals being treated for mild hypertension.

According to data reviewed by the European Medicines Agency, the risk of drug interactions with milk thistle is considered low. While it has shown some influence on certain liver enzymes (such as CYP3A4), clinical studies have not demonstrated any significant impact on how other medications are processed in the body.

In addition, no serious adverse effects or safety concerns have been identified in clinical trials or pharmacovigilance data, even when milk thistle was taken alongside other medications.

That said, if you are currently on prescription treatment for blood pressure, it’s always best to consult your healthcare professional before starting any new supplement to ensure it’s appropriate for your specific situation.
